Did Ya Know Friday

Some interesting facts: 1. Can witches fly? Medieval witches believed flight was possible with the aid of ointments rubbed on their skin. Practitioners rubbed their bodies with creams made from nightshade and mandrake, which, when absorbed through the skin, created a hallucinogenic effect. This produced the desired sensation of riding on a broomstick across the night sky, helping foster the legend that witches can, indeed, fly. 2. In the summer of 1692, residents of Cape Ann, Massachusetts, became convinced that an army of mysterious strangers had them under siege. They suspected that this "army" was French-Canadians allied with hostile Indians, and gunfire was exchanged. When the colonists went to view the bodies, there was not evidence of them. The strangers were accused of beating on barns and throwing stones, among other things. After the episode had run its course, a clergyman/witch hunter by the name of Cotton Mather speculated that the invaders had been demons. 3. Is i

GS Question of the Week

First things first. The new season of Ghost Hunters begins on October 11th. Mark your calendars. Now on to this week's question: On a Salt Lake City woman by the name of Lily Gray's grave marker are the words "Victim of the Beast 666". This phrase has stirred up quite a few questions as to its true meaning which is yet to be answered. If you could have any phrase on your tombstone which would only be significant to you and no one else, what phrase would you choose? My Answer: When I posted this question, I had no idea what my answer was going to be and I still don't. I envy those who have significant sayings or gestures. It's proof of a special bond.

The Livingston Wizard

In 1794, a stranger appeared at the door of the Adam Livingston farm in Middleway, West Virginia, asking for shelter. The family happily took him in and fed him, but late that night, Adam Livingston heard strange gasping sounds and wheezing. The stranger was coughing violently and was barely able to ask the good samaritans for a priest. He knew then that the man was dying. Being a Lutheran, he knew of no priest and vowed one would never grace their property. Later that night, the stranger died and Livingston and some neighbors buried him on a corner of the property the next morning. A small cross was erected at the grave. The bizarre events began just hours later. The story of the haunting gained fame in the area and the ghost became known as "The Livingston Wizard". The curious came to see the wizard perform its strange magic. Dishes fell out of cabinets and broke on the floor, fires and lanterns went out with no one near them, things flew about the house by their own po

Double Dose of Weird News

Why Buy Flowers When you can give her a Severed Hand Instead A doctor by the name of Ahmed Rashed not guilty to stealing a hand from a New Jersey medical school cadaver and giving it to an exotic dancer. Rashed, , a 2005 graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, voluntarily returned from Los Angeles where he is in a residency program. The dancer, Linda Kay, kept the hand in a jar of formaldehyde in her bedroom. Friends have said she called the hand "Freddy." Police discovered the hand, along with six human skulls, at Kay's home in July, after being called there on a report that a roommate was suicidal. The roommate was not home, but Kay was. Kay, 31, has pleaded not guilty to unlawful disposal of human remains. Her mother has said she believed the skulls were bought from a mail order catalog. The left hand was taken in May or June 2002, according to an investigation by the school and South Plainfield police, said Middlesex County Assistant Prosec

GS Question of the Week

What's your favorite Urban Legend? My Answer: I guess my favorite would have to be the Lover's Lane one mainly because it is linked to a serial killer in my hometown. I know it is sad that one of things a seemingly small town's claim to fame is a 1940s killer that was never caught but it could be worse.

Haunted EBay Painting

Image
Below is a picture of the popular Haunted Ebay Painting . Its' original title is "Hands Resist Him" and it was painted by Bill Stoneham . Stoneham painted it in 1972. The boy is himself, the hands being other lives, and the windows/door being a thin veil between waking and dreaming with the small doll like girl being the guide through. He doesn't know how it ended up abandoned behind a brewery but he does know that the gallery owner from which the painting was displayed and sold and a Los Angeles Times review critic both ended up dead within one year after the painting was shown. Is it merely a coincidence or is the painting really haunted? People have had several different but strange reactions upon viewing it. Some have felt ill even passed out. Others have claimed to have had strange visitors at night. Children cried in horror when looking at the pictures while others were too afraid look at it. Do I think it is haunted? No. I think saying it is boosted its popular

GS Updates

I apologize for not posting a lot. My first assignment is due in six days. So, I'm crunched for time to finish and send that in. Once I've done that, I'll have more time to post more ghostly things here. Oh, Click here if you don't know what I'm talking about. On top of all that, my 23rd birthday is on Sunday. I wish I could say I'm looking forward to it but I'm not. I've never been much of a birthday person mostly because I've never really had a good one. The majority have been tolerable. Anyways, I just wanted to update you on some new things at Ghost Stories. I posted a while back about setting up a forum. Well, I set up a group over at Yahoo. Feel free to join and talk about all your paranormal fascinations. A lot of the links on the sidebar will be transferred over to to there in order to free up some space. I may or may not be changing the template again. Thanks for all the nice comments on the current one. I found one a while back that I wan

GS Question of the Week

I want to start off by saying that today is the day to remember the 2,996 people who died as result of 9/11. I signed up for a project that gives a blogger a name of a victim and you have to write a tribute about that person. I posted mine if you would like to read it and there is a link to all the others. I also would like to point out, if you didn't already know, that I add my answer to each week's question on Sunday. I like the opinions you all have. Keep them coming. Now on to this week's question: Would you spend the night in a well known haunted place? Why or why not? My Answer: I really don't know. I'm fascinated with the subject to attempt it but staying the whole night is a coin toss.

Bed Reckoning

Urban Legend : This photo was taken in a hospital after the patient was in an accident where he was responsible for a young woman's death. It is said that when you receive this image and do not send it to at least five people, the woman will look for you during the night to collect your soul. People in Laredo, Texas, received this image and did not send it and were killed outside a bar; it looked as if this woman killed them. Send it to five people or the woman will look for you. Origins: First of all, I hate chain letters. Yeah, some of them are cute and/or funny but I never send any. Guess what? Nothing has ever happened to me. No dire consequences at all. As for this legend, the killer chain letter is totally FALSE. No one was killed in Laredo, Texas as a result of not sending the letter. Actually the photo above is from a Thai horror film variously titled The Mother or The Unborn or Bangkok Haunted 2: The Unborn . The image was used as the DVD artwork for the movie. The sleepi

Third Season of Ghost Hunters/Criss Angel

I'm sure like some of you TAPS fans have been wondering if and/or when the next season of Ghost Hunters will begin. After doing a little digging, I found an article at TV.com that confirms there will be a third season (13 new episodes) of Ghost Hunters. However, it doesn't specifically state a premiere date. It only says that it will be sometime in October. I'll keep you updated with any new developments on this. I'd also like to inform you Criss Angel fans that on Halloween (October 31st) on the A&E channel there will be special Mindfreak episode. Criss has invited Deborah Gibson, Steve Valentine, and Three Six Mafia to the Armagosa Hotel in Death Valley for a celebrity seance. They'll spend the night proving if the living can communicate with the dead. With Criss Angel involved, you know something insane is going to happen.

GS Question of the Week

This weeks question was inspired by a post made at Sue's and Matt's Paranomoral Blog . be sure and check it out. Here's the scenario: You're in the market to buy a new house. After seeing dozens of the ones not right for you, the realtor finally shows you the house of your dreams. It's everything you've ever wanted and is in your price range. You know when something sounds "too good to be true" that it usually is. So, you tell the realtor that you want to sleep on it and wait until she leaves to go talk to a neighbor or two. After striking out a few times, one kind neighbor and her family relay their strange experiences there. According to them, the house may be haunted. So, do you: A) Buy the house anyways despite that it might be haunted, B) Research further before making a finally decision or C) Continue looking? Why? My Answer : For the most part, I agree with most of the answers provided. I would do more research on the house before making any f
